Sister Shop in Sister City?

My sister lives in Rhode Island, and is mother to my beautiful niece who is only 5months older than my little boy. Here’s what they have to say for themselves: About … Continue reading

The Babies and the Bees….

When I first entered the world of diaper changing (when my little step daughter entered my life at 1 1/2)… the immediacy of a natural, safe diaper cream was priority #1 in my medicine cabinet. I had long been a fan of Burts Bees lip balm and body lotion, and having decided to try the diaper cream… I … Continue reading

Do the Doula!

Do the Doula!

Our Doula, Rinzen Kruger, who persistently pursued me during pregnancy at gigs and with phone calls until I gave in to see what the whole “hypnobirthing thing” was all about. I would have every intention of giving her a nest to teach her classes in and perhaps do any massage if she would like to do as well (she is licensed). I would strongly support/encourage women to choose using a doula through their birthing process, as well as choosing hypnobirthing as a birthing method, in my nest.

Bloom Spokane

Bloom Spokane

Bloom Spokane

Our local resource… online… for everything birthing and babies,Bloom Spokane:

We believe that all women deserve access to credible, accurate information about pregnancy and childbirth. As educated consumers, women are empowered to make informed health care decisions and choose maternity care providers who are best suited to their particular needs and wishes.

We recognize birth as a normal, healthy process—not an illness or disease. Women in our community should have the opportunity to birth instinctively and freely, whether they choose to give birth at home, a birth center or hospital. Families should be educated about their choices: the risks, the benefits and the alternatives. We want our pregnant and laboring mothers to be recognized and treated as individuals with their own sets of needs, desires and goals. Most importantly, the process of birth needs to be trusted, respected and unhindered.

OUR ORGANIZATION

Bloom Spokane is an official chapter of BirthNetwork National, a 501c3 nonprofit organization. We seek to promote and advance the practice of evidence-based maternity care and the principles of the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative in our region (Eastern Washington & North Idaho). Our members include parents, physicians, midwives, childbirth educators, doulas, massage therapists, lactation consultants, chiropractors and public health professionals—each committed to these same principles and practices.

We are a regional chapter of BirthNetwork National, an organization leading a grassroots movement based on the belief that birth can profoundly affect our physical, mental and spiritual well-being. BirthNetwork National advocates Mother-Friendly care, as defined by the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI). By making informed choices and having confidence in the process, families can experience safe and satisfying childbirth.

What’s in a Name

What’s in a Name

The concept of a “nest” really appeals to me. I’m thinking along the lines of “feathering a nest”, the basic idea of nurturing your family and babies in a loving, supportive and comfortable/cozy environment. The idea that Mother’s Haven had in their name, insinuates a shelter for Mamas… but as my sister says, that evokes a certain feeling … Continue reading
